Hot CreekIS THREATENED
byGold Mining
No Hot Creek Mine is leading the fight to protect Mammoth Lakes from gold mining.
The threat has re-amerged at Hot Creek and KORE Mining wants to begin exploratory drilling once again. The United States Forest Service announced KORE’s intent February 2026, and a decision will be made this April. Under the current administration, mining companies have been granted more freedoms and less –restrictions–, and we need your help more than ever.
Hot Creek is one of the Eastern Sierra’s greatest treasured natural and recreational resources.
Hot Creek is Public Lands
Four years ago, on September 27th 2021, the USFS granted Canadian company KORE Mining a Categorical Exclusion (CE) to drill at Hot Creek Geologic Site. A coalition of local organizations took KORE Mining and the USFS to court and won.
But the current administration has dismantled many environmental protections and safeguards communities have against mining companies. This time, the process by which KORE Mining can submit applications for drilling and begin the project are much different. Because of these changes, they have once again submitted a proposal to the USFS for exploratory drilling.
The fight to protect Hot Creek begins again.
