Gold Mining

No Hot Creek Mine is leading the fight to protect Mammoth Lakes from gold mining.

The threat has re-amerged at Hot Creek and KORE Mining wants to begin exploratory drilling once again. The United States Forest Service announced KORE’s intent February 2026, and a decision will be made this April. Under the current administration, mining companies have been granted more freedoms and less –restrictions–, and we need your help more than ever.

Hot Creek Geologic Site is one of the Eastern Sierra’s greatest

Hot Creek is storyteller and holds thousands of memories for many. It is where the Ktzuduka’a visit their ancenstors. It is where kids catch their first trout and families make memories. It is where people fall in love under the vast starscape above. It is where the Bi-State Sage Grouse and mule deer live. It is a place where local communities gather and visitors from around the world marvel at the beauty of the mountains and the water. The waters of Hot Creek carry the stories of so many, and it must be protected.

The fight to protect Hot Creek begins again.

Four years ago, on September 27th 2021, the USFS granted Canadian company KORE Mining a Categorical Exclusion (CE) to drill at Hot Creek Geologic Site. A conglomerate of local organizations took KORE Mining and the USFS to court and won. But under the current administration the legal — mining companies were bound to changed. Mining companies like KORE are now able to bypass — and they have once again submitted a proposal to the USFS for exploratory drilling.
